Suggestions for a computer

Hi,

I'm looking for suggestions for a computer that will primarily run COMSOL and Matlab.
My budget is 10k and I will probably get a Windows machine.

My first thought was an HP Z 800series and just maxing out the RAM for my budget.

thanks!!

I'm using Dell Precision T5500 and totally happy with it.
At this moment, their newest T7600 series looks like the best option. It supports up to 512Gb! Of course, it costs much more than 10K. I'd buy T7600 within 10K budget with possibility for huge memory upgrade in future when memory price drops.

If you are up for DIY-build you can get almost any system you want.

I paid ~2K euros for 2x AMD Opteron 6274, 64GB RAM, ASUS KGPE-D16, and suitable casing, HDD, Graphics card.

Currently, for the same price you can also get a similar setup with 2x Intel Xeon E5-2660.

If you want pre-built, then from my experience you get most bang for the buck with Dell.

Mohtadin

We have recently purchased two of the hp Z 800 and upgraded as we went. They now have 12 cores (24 in hyperthreaded mode) and 96 GB ram. These 64-bit linux machines are very nice to run on COMSOL. We have had overheating problems on the memory chips because of poor ventilation and a hot summer here in Tennessee right now.
